Why Hard Chrome Plating?
Chromium's
hardness is nearly that of a diamond. Its benefits include a low
coefficient of friction and a high melting point. There are two types of
chrome plating, decorative and industrial. DC Chrome only does Hard Chrome
(Industrial) Plating.
Hard Chroming is used to provide a working
surface that requires one or more of the following characteristics:
- hardness,
- smoothness
- chemical inertness
- resistance to wear
- abrasion
- corrosion
- wetting or galling;
- or the ability to take an exceedingly high
polish.
Since DC Chrome only does Hard Chrome Plating you can guarantee
perfection regarding the uniform thickness needed for industrial plating.
The Process
- First, the metal is treated mechanically so the final
finish is done properly. Improper finishing is the most common reason for
plating failure.
- Second we clean and etch the plate to
ensure proper adhesion. After the cleaning process is complete, we begin the chroming process
- Third, the chrome finish is applied.
- Last, its mechanically finished for sizing, i.e.
grinding, lapping, honing or super finish.
